Former Workhouse, Hardingstone, Northamptonshire
This building was originally Hardingstone Union Workhouse. It was built in 1838-39 at a cost of around £3,750. It was designed to house 130 people. The first of these were admitted on 25th May 1840. Many of them were unemployed lace workers. Unusually there was not sufficient work for the people to do. They were sent to work at the Wootton workhouse, using Hardingstone as more of a residential centre.
