Subject Access Requests

Your rights to access your personal information.

Data protection legislation gives you the right to request access to personal information about you which is processed by Historic England.

How do I make a Subject Access Request?

You can make a request for a copy of the information we hold about you by completing this request form.

Please provide any additional information that is relevant to the nature of your contact with us as this will help us to locate your records.

Before we can respond to your request we require proof of identification. Please submit a copy of your identification documents along with your request. Acceptable identification documents include:

  • current driver's licence
  • current passport
  • birth certificate

If you are making a request on behalf of someone else, please include proof of identity for yourself and the data subject. We also need a letter from the data subject authorising the request on their behalf.

When can I expect to receive a response?

We will provide a copy of your personal information free of charge and usually within one month of receipt. Where a request is complex or numerous we may extend the deadline by a further two months. If this is the case we will let you know within one month of the receipt of the request and explain why the extension is necessary.

If the request is considered to be manifestly unfounded or excessive we may refuse to respond. If we do refuse to respond to a request we will explain why and provide you with information about how to complain.
